Kentucky (2-0) 38

Eastern Michigan (1-1) 17

In the second meeting ever between the schools, the Kentucky Wildcats made sure early on that it was not going to be a repeat of the first encounter with the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Cats put 17 on the scoreboard in the first half as they downed EMU 38-17. In the last meeting Kentucky pulled out a 24-20 win in 2017.

Kentucky got the scoring started with an 8 yard touchdown run by A. J. Rose with 6:56 left in the first quarter. The drive, which lasted 3 plays and 26 yards, was set up by a 21 yard punt return by Lynn Bowden Jr. That would be the first of many big plays by Bowden.

Less than 5 minutes later Kavosiey Smoke punched scampered in from 32 yards out to put the Cats up 14-0. That drive covered 90 yards on 6 plays.

Not only was Kentucky’s offense clicking but so was the defense. The Eagles were only able to amass 21 first quarter yards. Kash Daniel and Josh Paschal were both taking care of business as the both recorded 3 tackles, but Yusuf Corker was the first half stopper as he recorded 5 tackles.

Chance Poore would finish off the scoring for Kentucky as he kicked a 40 yard field goal with 7:43 to play in the half. That opportunity was set up by a Daniel 18 yard interception return.

Eastern Michigan would get on the board with a 24 yard field goal by Chad Ryland with 1:52 in the half.

After the teams traded scores and Kentucky leading 24-10 things took a turn for the worse for the Cats. With 1:49 left in the 3rd quarter Quarterback Terry Wilson was on the receiveing end of a horse collar tackle that resulted in him being taken off on a cart.

Sawyer Smith would come in to replace Wilson and put up some respectable numbers. Smith would go 5 of 9 thru the air for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The big story in the second half for Eastern Michigan was the play of quarterback Mike Glass. Glass was 22 of 31 with 237 yards in the and 2 touchdowns. For the game Glass was 34-53 for 337 yards 2 tds and two interceptions.

In the post game press conference Coach Mark Stoops did not know the severity of Wilson’s injury.

Kentucky will host Florida next Saturday and Eastern Michigan travels to Illinois.
