UK Blue White Game

By Peggy Gilligan

There was lots of excitement in Rupp Arena tonight  as Coach Cal stepped on the floor to announce the agenda for the evening.  He explained that there would be a 15-20 minute warm up then the teams would scrimmage and that would include both sides playing some 2-3 zone. Kenny Payne and Joel Justus were the coaches for the White team and Tony Barbee and John Robic coached the blue team.

The game opened with the white team getting the ball on a tip from Nick Richards. Both sides seemed very  eager and excited to be on the floor . Nate Sestina the new grad transfer from Bucknell was very impressive  hitting a 3 point shot from the left side early on and was 4 for 8 in the game from the outside . He finished the game with 22 points and  4 rebounds.

The alumni weekend was filled with former players during each timeout former players were at center court to receive cheers from the all the fans in attendance. Present were players from the 1940’s until present. Some notables were Larrry Conley, Louie Dampier, Rex Chapman, Deron Feldhaus and Jared Polson.

The white team was up 46-39 at the half. Coming out for the second half EJ Montgomery played for the blue team and Hagens and Quickley were the guards for blue with Maxey and Whitney in the backcourt for the white team. The game ended with the score of 81-80 giving the White team the victory.

It appears that Big Blue Nation should be in for a fun year. The entire team seems committed and focused on a goal of bringing home a 9th NCAA championship trophy back to Kentucky in April.
