The UK Healthcare Boy’s Sweet Sixteen got started with a bang on Wednesday as Woodford County and Jeffersontown squared off in a barn burner. In a game that saw neither team lead by double digits Eight Region champ Woodford County outlasted Jeffersontown out of the Sixth Region 60 to 57 in overtime. Both teams missed chances to win in regulation as Woodford County’s Layton Stark missed two free throws with :05.9 left. After the misses Jeffersontown’s Jay Hackley-Marks missed a open shot at the buzzer that sent the two teams to overtime at 52-52.

Woodford County was able to make enough free throws in the extra frame to preserve the win as they connected on 5 of 8 attempts. Probably none bigger than Aden Nelson hitting 1 of 2 with :05 left to give the Yellow Jackets a 60-57 lead. This forced Jeffersontown’s Brandon Gatewood to take a shot from beyond the top of the key that rimmed out.
