Team Records and Series Notes   

  • Kentucky concluded the regular season 11-19 overall and 4-12 in the Southeastern Conference in 2023-24, while LSU finished the regular season 26-4 overall and 13-3 in the conference this season. 
  • The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program is in its 50th season.
    • UK has a 905-607 (.599) all-time record. 
  • Kyra Elzy is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Wildcats, holding a 60-59 (.513) overall record.
    • She has a 23-40 overall record in the SEC.  
  • Kentucky trails the all-time meetings with LSU, 37-18, in a series that began in 1982.
    • Kentucky trails LSU, 17-5, in games played in Baton Rouge.  
  • Kentucky will play as the No. 12 seed against No. 13 Georgia in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 6 at 11 a.m. ET.
    • The game will be broadcast on SEC Network.

  • Kentucky used the starting combination Casidy Rowe, Maddie Scherr, Amiya Jenkins, Emma King and Ajae Petty for the fifth straight game.
    • UK is 2-3 when using that starting combination. 
    • It is UK’s 11th starting combination this season.  
    • The Wildcats lost the opening tip. 
    • Amiya Jenkins was the first player to score for Kentucky. 
    • Brooklynn Miles was the first substitute off the bench for Kentucky. 
  • The Wildcats had 22 bench points, compared to the Tigers’ two.
    • It marked the Cats’ fifth straight game with at least 20 bench points. 

How It Happened 

  • Kentucky trailed LSU, 20-9, at the end of the first quarter.
    • Ten of LSU’s points came off turnovers and another eight of its points came off free throws.
      • UK turned the ball over nine times in that period. 
    • The Wildcats forced the Tigers into a shot clock violation to end the period.  
  • LSU started the second quarter on an 11-5 run, but Kentucky closed the quarter on a 13-2 run, to trail LSU by just six points at the half, 37-33.
    • Kentucky went 10-of-28 (35.7) from the field, including three 3-pointers, in the first half, while LSU went 12-of-27 (32.4) from the field in that time. 
    • Kentucky outrebounded LSU, 23-20, in the first half. 
  • Out of the halftime break, LSU outscored UK, 15-4, in the first four minutes and eight seconds of the third quarter to tie its largest lead at 17 points.
    • The Wildcats outscored the Tigers, 14-10, to close out the quarter, including going on a 6-0 run under the two-minute mark. 
    • Kentucky trailed LSU, 60-45, at the end of the third quarter.
      • The Cats forced the Tigers into seven turnovers in the third quarter. 
  • The Wildcats doubled the Tigers scoring efforts, 8-4, in the first four-and-a-half minutes, to cut it to an 11-point deficit.
    • The Tigers responded with a 13-3 run down the stretch. 
    • Kentucky lost to LSU, 77-56.

  • Saniah Tyler, a sophomore guard, had a team-high tying 14 points, including four 3-pointers.
    • She has scored 10+ points in four straight games.

  • Ajae Petty, a senior forward, had 13 points and a team-high 15 rebounds.

    • She had recorded 10+ rebounds in 17 games this season and 19 games in her career. 
    • She added a career-high tying and a team-high three blocks, an assist and a steal. 
  • Brooklynn Miles, a junior guard, led Kentucky with a career-high tying seven assists.
    • It was her most assists in Southeastern Conference action.  
    • She added three rebounds, two steals, a point and a block.
