Lexington, KY – It took the Mason County Royals 30 years to get back to the KHSAA Boys State Baseball Tournament. It took Lexington Catholic less than three hours to send them back home.

Lexington Catholic, winners of the 11 Region, scored 5 runs in the first two innings and never looked back as they defeated Mason County 6-0 at Lexington Legends Field Thursday night.

Mason County’s Landon Scilley gave up five runs on six hits in the first two innings of play before settling in and pitching three more scoreless innings before being relieved by Brady Mefford.

Lexington Catholic starter Burley Bounds shut out the Royals allowing only six hits in seven innings of play.

Mason County’s magical run ended after knocking off the top three ranked teams in the 10th region to return to the sweet sixteen for the first time since 1994. They finish the season 20-16.

Lexington Catholic improved to 27-11 and will play Pleasure Ridget Park in the quarter finals on Saturday.
