DREW THELWELL INKS WITH EAGLE MEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM

By Matt Schabert, Morehead State Athletic Media RelationsMOREHEAD, Ky. — Drew Thelwell, a 6-3 guard from Orlando, Fla., is the first signee for the Morehead State men’s basketball program this year during the early National Letter of Intent signing period.

After excelling at Orangewood Christian (Fla.) last year, Thelwell will be finishing his high school career at The Master’s Academy this year.

“Drew is a bigger point guard with lightning quick speed and is threat to score every time,” said head coach Preston Spradlin. “We were really drawn to him by his play-making ability and his tenacious defensive effort.”

At Orangewood, Thelwell averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 2018-19. He has already eclipsed 1,000 career points in his prep career.

“Drew has a real high I.Q. and makes everyone around him better,” Spradlin continued. “The luxury of signing early is he can enjoy his senior year, and we can watch him try to lead his team to a state championship. We’ll have a good idea and can lay out the blueprint of how we are going to use him in our program when he comes in as a freshman next year.”

Thelwell also has experience with the PHS Elite, an independent AAU program in his home state. At the On the Radar Elite 32 event this past summer, he was rated as “stock rising” and was judged one of the best players at the event.
