WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WELCOMES FELLOW 2019 WNIT QUALIFIER N.C. A&T TUESDAY

MOREHEAD, Ky.
 – The Morehead State Women’s Basketball team is set to host North Carolina A&T at 6:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday evening at Johnson Arena.

The Eagles, who are 2-3 overall, enter the contest coming off a setback against No.13 Kentucky on Thursday. Despite a final score of 79-54, Morehead State outrebounded the Wildcats 43-37.

In the 2019-20 season, freshmen guards Ariel Kirkwood and Tomiyah Alford are currently leading the Eagles scoring efforts with 10.8 points per game. Kirkwood, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., is also the squad’s top rebounder with an average of 9.2 per game.

The Aggies visit Morehead sporting a 3-3 overall mark and most recently defeated Arkansas State, 55-50, in the Maggie DePaul Dixon Classic in Chicago, Ill.

Junior Deja Winters leads N.C. A&T in scoring with 14.8 points per game. On the glass, the Aggies efforts are paced by 6-foot-3 senior Alexus Lessears’ 5.8 rebounds per game

Tuesday’s meeting will be the second between the schools in women’s hoops and the second in as many seasons. Morehead State opened its 2018-19 season with a 72-67 win over N.C. A&T in Greensboro, N.C.

Both teams participated in the 2019 Women’s National Invitational Tournament. The Eagles represented the Ohio Valley Conference with the leagues automatic bid while the Aggies were the automatic qualifiers from the MEAC after winning its 2019 regular season crown.
