MOREHEAD, Ky. — Possessing size and athleticism and from an athletic family, Johni Broome has chosen Morehead State for his collegiate basketball career and has signed his National Letter of Intent.

The 6-10 Broome led Tampa (Fla.) Catholic to the 5A state semifinals as a junior.

“Johni has great size and a great skill set as a two-way guy,” said head coach Preston Spradlin. “He has proven to be an elite rebounder, and I am excited about the potential he’s got. He comes from a great program at Tampa Catholic which develops players the right way and plays a really tough schedule. That will get him prepared to come in and make an impact next year.”

After playing his first two high school seasons at Plant City (Fla.) High School, Broome transferred to Tampa Catholic where he averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as a junior.

His brother John was a football defensive end at Florida International, finishing his career in 2018. Broome chose the Eagles over Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Bryant and Jacksonville.

Broome is the second early signee for the Eagle program and the second Florida native, joining 6-3 guard Drew Thelwell from Orlando who signed this fall.
