Conference Notes

·   Seven teams rank in the Top 50 of the NCAA’s NET rankings. That is the second-most of all conferences.

·   Twelve SEC schools have played schedules that rank among the Top 75 in the nation (tied for best in the nation).

·   Four players from SEC schools have been selected to the 2020 NBA All-Star Game: Bam Adebayo (Kentucky), Anthony Davis (Kentucky), Khris Middleton (Texas A&M), Ben Simmons (LSU)

·   LSU’s Skyler Mays was named one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.

·   Ten different SEC teams have received votes in the AP Poll this season.

·   The seventh annual Big 12/SEC Challenge on January 25 resulted with both leagues taking home five wins. Over the last four years of the Challenge, both conferences have won 20 games.

·   Fourteen current SEC players have earned their degrees, including four – Jamario Bell (AR), Jalen Johnson (UT), Josh Nebo (AM), Wendell Mitchell (AM) and Mitchell Storm – who graduated in December.

·   Six SEC teams rank among the 50 youngest NCAA Division I teams according to KenPom.com – Florida ninth, Kentucky 17th, Vanderbilt 28th, South Carolina 29th, LSU 39th and Georgia 41st.

·   The SEC’s 15 NCAA Tournament selections of the last two years are second-most in the nation.

·   70 players from SEC schools were on 2019-20 NBA Opening Day rosters. All 14 SEC schools were represented and at least one SEC player was on 26 of 30 NBA rosters.

·   Twelve SEC players were picked at the 2019 NBA Draft, including six chosen in the first round.

Team/Individual Notes

·   SEC Player of the Week – Ole Miss guard Breein Tyree, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior from Somerset, N.J., averaged 30.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, two steals and one assist in wins against South Carolina and Florida. He shot 52.5 percent (21-of-40) from the field and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from beyond the arc in the two wins. Tyree scored 20 of his team’s 41 second half points on his way to a career-high 38 points against South Carolina. It was his third 30-point game of the season. Tyree followed that up with a game-high 23 points to lead the Rebels past Florida.

·   SEC Freshman of the Week – South Carolina guard Jermaine Couisnard, a 6-foot-4, 211-pound freshman from East Chicago, Ind., averaged 23.5 points, three assists and two rebounds against Ole Miss and Texas A&M. He recorded a career-best 28 points at Ole Miss and added a 19-point effort against Texas A&M. 

·   Vanderbilt’s Saben Lee (33) and Maxwell Evans (31) both scored 30+ points against LSU on Feb. 5. They became the first teammates in the SEC to have 30 or more points in the same game since Kentucky’s Jodie Meeks (32) and Patrick Patterson (33) against Tennessee State on Dec. 22, 2008.

·   Arkansas’ Mason Jones is one of three players in the nation to have multiple 40-point games. He had 41 vs. Tulsa (Dec. 14) and 40 vs. Auburn (Feb. 4).

·   Eight SEC teams rank in the Top 100 nationally in 3-point field goal defense. Arkansas leads nation by holding opponents to 24.6 percent 3-point shooting.
