Conference Notes
· Six teams rank in the Top 50 of the NCAA’s NET rankings (tied third among all conferences).
· All 14 SEC schools have played schedules that rank among the Top 100 in the nation.
· There have been 31 instances in which an SEC player has scored 30+ points in a single game already this season. That is the most in the league over the last 20 years. There were 30 games with a player having 30+ points in 2009.
· Four players from SEC schools were selected to the 2020 NBA All-Star Game: Bam Adebayo (Kentucky), Anthony Davis (Kentucky), Khris Middleton (Texas A&M), Ben Simmons (LSU).
· LSU’s Skyler Mays was named one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.
· Ten different SEC teams have received votes in the AP Poll this season.
· The seventh annual Big 12/SEC Challenge on January 25 resulted with both leagues taking home five wins. Over the last four years of the Challenge, both conferences have won 20 games.
· Thirteen current SEC players have earned their degrees, including five – Jamario Bell (AR), Anfernee McLemore (AU), Jalen Johnson (UT), Josh Nebo (AM), Wendell Mitchell (AM) and Mitchell Storm (MS) – who graduated in December.
· Six SEC teams rank among the 50 youngest NCAA Division I teams according to KenPom.com – Florida ninth, Kentucky 17th, Vanderbilt 28th, South Carolina 29th, LSU 39th and Georgia 41st.
· The SEC’s 15 NCAA Tournament selections of the last two years are second-most in the nation.
· 70 players from SEC schools were on 2019-20 NBA Opening Day rosters. All 14 SEC schools were represented and at least one SEC player was on 26 of 30 NBA rosters.
Team/Individual Notes
· SEC Player of the Week – Kentucky guard Immanuel Quickley, a 6-foot-3, 188-pound sophomore from Havre de Grace, Md., averaged 23.5 points, three rebounds, three steals and 2.5 assists in wins at LSU and over Florida. He began the week by scoring 21 points at LSU with a career-high five assists and a career-high three steals. Quickley then scored 22 of his career-high 26 points in the second half of the win over Florida. In the second half of this week’s games, Quickley averaged 18.0 points per game and shot 75 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from 3-point range with five 3’s.
· SEC Freshman of the Week – Georgia guard Anthony Edwards, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound freshman from Atlanta, Ga., averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in wins against No. 13 Auburn and at Vanderbilt. He notched his 22nd and 23rd double figure scoring outputs of the season and led Georgia offensively for the 16th and 17th times in 27 games this season.
· Alabama’s Kira Lewis recorded just the third triple-double in school history when he had 10 points, 10 rebounds, 13 assists at Auburn on Feb. 12.
· Alabama set SEC records for 3-pointers made (22) and attempts (59) against Auburn on Feb. 12.
· Arkansas’ Mason Jones is one of three players nationally to have multiple 40-point games: 41 vs. Tulsa (Dec. 14) and 40 vs. Auburn (Feb. 4).
· Vanderbilt’s Saben Lee (33) and Maxwell Evans (31) both scored 30+ points against LSU on Feb. 5. They became the first teammates in the SEC to have 30 or more points in the same game since Kentucky’s Jodie Meeks (32) and Patrick Patterson (33) against Tennessee State on Dec. 22, 2008.
