Kentucky Breaks Through With Win Over LSU

By Peggy Gilligan

The Wildcats took control early tonight in their victory over the LSU Tigers by the score 82-69.  The game plan seemed to change with the Cats taking more three shot attempts with 6-17 in the first half and 7-26(27%) for the game.  Brandon Boston Jr.’s performance lived up to the pre-season hype by scoring 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, along with one block and one steal.

Keion Brooks Jr. added 15 points, 9 rebounds, and two blocks,

Olivier Sarr only played 12 minutes but they were productive adding thirteen points and grabbing 5 rebounds. Isaiah Jackson scored only six points in his 16 minutes on the floor but he pulled down 15 rebounds . Dontaie Allen hit 2 three point shots in his 15 minutes but his defense is much improved.

The team played together tonight with just one misstep by Boston as noted by Calipari in his post game zoom meeting. If this trend continues it should give Big Blue Nation hope that good things are on the horizon.

Coach Calipari stated after the game that if a player doesn’t shoot when open he is going to pull them out of the game.

The win pulled the Cats to 4-3 in the SEC and 5-9 overall for the season. The next few games should be tough for Kentucky facing Alabama, Texas, Missouri, and Tennessee. But as the saying goes Kentucky will take them one at a time hoping for good results in all the games. Next up will be Alabama on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa at 7:00.
