Kentucky Comes Out On Top at Rocky Top

Kentucky secured their third win in a row in Knoxville by beating the Tennessee Volunteers 70-55. The Cats spent their last day in the “Tennessee Bubble” by sprinting out of the starting block with Davion Mintz hitting 5 of 5 three point shots. Isaiah Jackson scored 13 points in the first stanza hitting all five of his free throws. The Wildcats took a fifteen point lead into the locker room after the first twenty minutes.

Kentucky as a hot shooting team in the first putting up 60% from the field, 67% from the three point line and hitting all of their free throws.

In the second half, Tennessee put up a good fight but every time the Cats were able to sustain and did not surrender the lead as they have so many times earlier this season.

Olivier Sarr was scoreless in the first but was able to add 10 points in the second half. Keion Brooks Jr. also added 7 points in the second for a total of ten for the game.

For the game the Cats had four players in double figures: Mintz, Jackson, Sarr, and Brooks Jr.. Overall for the game the team hit 40% on field goals, 50% from the three point line and 85% of their free throws.

Coach Calipari’s post game comments included that he never game up on this team-he keep holding them accountable. He said they are now playing like a team and getting better.

The next game for Kentucky was supposed to be against Texas A&M, but due to covid problems the game has been canceled. Stay tuned to see if another game will be scheduled. Otherwise the next opponent will be Florida Saturday February 27th in Rupp Arena.
