Schedule Update

·   The Texas A&M at Kentucky men’s basketball game of February 23 has been postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Texas A&M basketball program.

·   Florida at Auburn game moves from a 6:30 start to 7:00 p.m. ET Tuesday on ESPN.

Conference Notes

·   SEC Player of the Week – Vanderbilt forward Dylan Disu, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound sophomore from Pflugerville, Texas, averaged 23.0 points and 15.5 rebounds against Kentucky and at No. 9 Alabama. Disu posted a career-high 29 points and career-best 16 rebounds in addition to three assists, two steals and two blocks while shooting 10-of-20 from the field against Kentucky. He added 17 points and 15 rebounds at Alabama.

·   SEC Freshman of the Week – Kentucky forward Isaiah Jackson a 6-foot-10, 206-pound freshman from Pontiac, Mich., averaged 15.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in wins at Vanderbilt and at No. 19 Tennessee. Against Vanderbilt, Jackson had 15 points on a perfect 5-for-5 day from the floor. Jackson poured in 16 points and hauled in seven rebounds, while also blocking two shots against the Volunteers.

·   Six SEC teams rank in the Top 40 of the NCAA’s Feb. 22 NET rankings. That is the tied for second-most in the nation.

·   Five teams are receiving mention in the February 22 Associated Press Top 25 highlighted by Alabama (6th), Arkansas (20th) Missouri (24th) and Tennessee (25th). LSU is receiving votes.

·   Five teams rank among the Top 25 defensive teams in the nation according to KenPom.com, including holding two of the top five spots in the list. Alabama ranks No. 2 in Adjusted Defense while Tennessee is 5th, Arkansas 20th, Kentucky 21st and Ole Miss 23rd.

·   The SEC won the eighth annual SEC/Big 12 Challenge by winning five of the nine games on January 30. The SEC has a 25-24 lead in the event over the last five years.

·   Kentucky’s Davion Mintz and Olivier Sarr & Tennessee’s John Fulkerson and Yves Pons have been named candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.

·   Alabama’s 23 3-pointers made against LSU on Jan. 19 broke the SEC record of 22 that they had set last season and was tied by Auburn earlier this year.

·   Tennessee’s Rick Barnes ranks 19th on the all-time Division I wins list with 723 wins.  DePaul’s Ray Meyer is just ahead of him at 724.

·   Mississippi State head coach Ben Howland registered his 500th career win on Nov. 30 against Texas State.

·   Arkansas’ 142 points against Mississippi Valley St. in the season-opener are the fourth-most in SEC history.

·   Tennessee was the favorite to win the 2021 SEC championship in a preseason poll of media from around the league and nation. Kentucky was picked to finish second and is followed by LSU, Florida and Alabama. Florida’s Keyontae Johnson was selected by the media as the preseason player of the year.

·   Seventy-seven players from SEC schools were on 2020-21 NBA Opening Day rosters. All 14 SEC schools were represented and at least one SEC player is on 28 of 30 NBA rosters.

·   For the second year in a row, 12 SEC players were picked in the 2020 NBA Draft, including six who were chosen in the first round.

·   Georgia’s Anthony Edwards became the fifth SEC player to be picked first overall in the NBA Draft in the last 11 years.

·   The 2020 NBA Draft marked the fourth time (1988, 2015 and 2018) that the SEC had four lottery picks in a single NBA Draft.
