FINALLY! FOOTBALL HOSTS STETSON SATURDAY FOR FIRST HOME GAME SINCE NOVEMBER 2019

MOREHEAD, Ky. — November 23, 2019 – the last home football game for the Morehead State Eagles. After the 2020 fall season was postponed to this spring, it’s finally time for football at Jayne Stadium. The Eagles host Stetson in a PFL game Saturday at Noon ET.

Ironically that game on Nov. 23, 2019 also pitted the Eagles against the Hatters with Stetson heading home with a 31-16 win. Both teams are looking for their first wins in the spring. MSU is 0-2, and Stetson lost to Davidson last weekend.

ROSTER | SCHEDULE 
NOTABLE• Senior receiver BJ Byrd, a transfer after Jacksonville dropped its program after the 2019 season, hauled in seven passes for 148 yards at Presbyterian. That yardage mark was the most since Christian Robinson recorded 149 yards in a home win over Dayton in 2015. Byrd also had 32 kickoff return yards for 178 all-purpose yards.

• Senior linebacker Vincent Wineyerupted for 10 tackles, including a career-best 2.5 in the backfield, at Presbyterian. He was also credited with a forced fumble.

• Senior Andrew Foster ranked first in the PFL in punting in 2019, averaging 41.8 yards on 53 punts. Foster booted six punts for a 43.3 yard average at Presbyterian and averages 39.0 yards in his first two games in 2021.

• Andrew Foster was first Eagle punter since Chris Burke in 1985 and 1986 to average at least 40 yards per punt for the entire season for two straight years.

• Jahleel Holmes, a transfer from Azusa Pacific after their program was dropped, recorded his first career tackle for loss at James Madison and it was a sack for an 11-yard loss. He also had a tackle for loss at Presbyterian.

• Vaughn Taylor, Jr., collected 1.5 tackles for loss at Presbyterian after leading the conference with 18 behind the line in 2019.

• Vaughn Taylor, Jr., and Andrew Fosterwere named to the spring 2021 PFL Players to Watch List.

• Morehead State had two interceptions at Presbyterian, nabbed by junior defensive back Khyiree Keith and junior cornerback Brandon Barbee. It was Barbee’s third career pick and the first for Keith.

• Nine different receivers caught passes from Mark Pappas and DeAndre Claytonat James Madison and eight did at Presbyterian. Morehead State has a streak of 19 consecutive games with at least six different receivers catching at least one pass. That streak dates to Oct. 20, 2018 vs. Valparaiso.

• Junior slot receiver Ian Holder ranked second among all PFL players in kick return average in 2019. Holder had 21 returns for a 27.1-yard average. Holder missed the Presbyterian game but is listed as probable this week.

• Among a number of changes and additions to the coaching staff, third-year assistant Andrew Strobel was elevated recently to defensive coordinator. Strobel coached the linebackers and special teams previously. Kylan Butler was promoted to Associate Head Coach. There are eight new coaches on the 2021 staff.
