UK-KY Wesleyan Recap

UK-KY Wesleyan Recap

By Peggy Gilligan

After last season I was apprehensive going into this year. Hearing about transfers, McDonald All Americans and returning players the hype was through the roof about Kentucky. Last night I was able to relax and enjoy watching Kentucky play. The team showed they can play together, share the ball, and make three-point shots.

TyTy Washington Jr. the freshman from Arizona was quite impressive in his first college game. His stats for the game included eighteen points, two assists, two steals and one turnover in 25 minutes of playing time.

Returning junior Keion Brooks Jr. started the scoring with a three-point shot. He also scored eighteen points with eight rebounds in 21 minutes of playing time.

Transfer Oscar Tshiebwe was a BIG presence on the interior. He is able to get rebounds and score. His stats were eleven points and ten rebounds in his 17 minutes of playing time.

Overall, ten players entered the game and ten players scored for Kentucky.

Coach Calipari in his post-game comments noted that he played so many players to see who was willing to fight for playing time in the future. He said in the future that the player rotation would be 7 or 8 players. The one flaw Cal noted was a lack of interior defense. He was not happy the Ky Wesleyan team was able to score at will in the paint.

Overall, it was a good night for Kentucky shooting 54% from the field with 11 of 29 from three-pointrange for 38%. Rebounds totaled thirty-nine, twenty assists and only nine turnovers. The final score was Kentucky 95-Ky Wesleyan 72.

The final exhibition game is Friday November 5thagainst Miles College at Rupp Arena.
