During Coach John Calipari’s opening comments today, he expressed that he wants to try new things with this team. He also stated he is talking with others about things that might work with this group of players.

When questioned about the announcement of honoring Tubby Smith at the December game with High Point. Calipari said when talking with Tubby he emphasizedthat Tubby should realize how much he is loved and respected here in Kentucky.

During the question-and-answer session Calipari stated that early on the team would struggle but that he has good guards. On the SEC he thinks it is probably the best it has ever been, and it should be the best league in the country.

When talking about practices he is happy that he has ten players to fight for the starting positions. Cal also has a lot of things to figure out about the team, but everyone will have their chance to prove themselves.

Coach Cal also said that the team needs to scrimmage more in practice that the competition improves everyone on the team.

When asked about his legacy Calipari said helping families would be his finest accomplishment. 

On the UK football teams recent success Calipari was excited and that all the other UK sports from volleyball to the rifle team are enjoying great achievements as well.

Coach Cal also stated that he felt the transfer portal would benefit Kentucky because kids would want to come here and improve their skills but felt that the high school players may be left behind due to colleges saving scholarships for transfer students in the future.
