MOREHEAD, Ky. —Rodrick Sikes, who scored more than 1,000 points in just two seasons at South Alabama, has joined the Morehead State coaching staff as Manager of Player Development.

Sikes, who has also played professionally, was originally recruited by MSU head coach Preston Spradlin. He chose Southwest Mississippi Community College before finishing his career and earning his degree at South Alabama.

“I am thrilled that we were able to add Rodrick to our coaching staff. He has tremendous experience as an all-conference Division I player and in the professional ranks that will prove to be impactful with our players,” said Spradlin. “Having been where they currently are and where they strive to be in the future will allow for him to relate to our players on a personal level. We recruited Rodrick as a player more than four years ago and for us to maintain our relationship and now help him start his coaching career is a great feeling.”

At SMCC, Sikes was a Second-Team All-American and helped the team to the MACJC state title. He averaged 22.4 points as a sophomore, ranking fourth in the nation among NJCAA players and setting the school record for scoring average.

At South Alabama, Sikes was Second-Team All-Sun Belt and holds the record for most 30-point scoring outputs in a single-season with five. He averaged 18.7 points as a junior in 2017-18 and 12.1 as a senior in 2018-19, eventually scoring 1,007 points in just two seasons.

Sikes graduated from St. Martin (Miss.) High School after attending Biloxi (Miss.) his first two years. He was a three-time South Mississippi All-Star. He played pro ball for one season with BK Liepaja in Latvia.

Sikes graduated from South Alabama with his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and is working toward his Master’s Degree in sports management at Morehead State.
