MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator Will Kirkendall III was a finalist for the American Football Coaches Association FCS Assistant Coach of the Year Award.

“Coach Kirkendall did an incredible job with our special teams this season,” said head coach Rob Tenyer. “He is very deserving of this recognition as one of the top assistants in FCS football.”

In his second season with the Eagles, Kirkendall’s defensive back unit was among the tops in the PFL and the FCS in interceptions, including cornerback Tyler Noble with three pick-offs. The Eagles rank 16th in the nation in FCS in interceptions.

Leading the Eagle special teams, he helped mentor punter Andrew Foster to a PFL record single-season season punting average as well as setting and then re-setting his own school record for consecutive extra-point kicks made.

Morehead State ranked ninth among FCS teams in net punting and 24th in kickoff return defense.
