Eagles Battle But Fall in Tight Contest at SEMO

MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State fell just short in a tightly contested battle at SEMO on Thursday night, 60-53.

The Eagles were hot from the floor for most of the night, connecting on 40 percent of their shots, including making six three-pointers, but 25 turnovers leading to 13 points from the Redhawks spelled doom for Morehead State.

Julan McDonald had one of her best games of the season, pouring in a season-high 15 points to go with nine rebounds and three blocks, alongside Jada Claude, who continued her torrid pace through the OVC with her third double-double in a row, and sixth on the season, with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Alana Denson rounded out the Eagles in double-figures with 11 points on the night.

Morehead State opened the game on a 7-1 run on the back of three consecutive successful possessions, but cooled off as SEMO climbed back to knot the game up at nine before a buzzer beating three pointer from Jazmyn Gaines-Burns gave the Eagles a 12-9 advantage after the first quarter.

The second quarter continued the seesaw affair, with both sides trading the lead before the Eagles launched an 8-0 run to end the half, with four different players scoring during the streak, to head into the locker room with a 28-25 lead.

The third quarter again saw the two teams swing momentum back and forth before a 10-0 run late in the quarter saw SEMO leap out to 42-35 lead. The Eagles fought back in the fourth quarter with five points in a row to tie the game, but another 8-0 run from the Redhawks was finally too much for Morehead State to overcome.

Next up, Morehead State continues their road trip as they head to in-state rival Murray State on Saturday. The game is set to tip off at 3:00 PM ET.
