Strong Performances From Claude and Denson, but Eagles Fall To UT Martin

MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State competed in a defensive struggle with UT Martin on Monday afternoon, but fell to the visiting Skyhawks, 64-50.

The Eagles racked up five blocks and seven steals as they forced the Skyhawks into 15 turnovers, but struggled to take advantage on the offensive end, where they shot only 32 percent from the field and 21 percent from beyond the arc.

Jada Claude continued her string of dominant performances, putting together her 5th double-double of the season, tying her for the most in the OVC, finishing the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Alana Denson also matched a season high with 14 points of her own.

Morehead State opened the game with an aggressive press on defense, and combined that with connecting on their first three shot attempts of the game to jump out to an early 9-5 lead, but the Skyhawks would answer with an 8-0 to close the quarter with a 15-11 advantage.

UT Martin stretched their lead out to 13 deep into the second quarter before Morehead State would respond with back-to-back three pointers to end the half, first from Freddy Adams and then a buzzer beater from Alana Denson, to go into the halftime down 35-25.

An even third quarter set the stage for the 4th, but they could never cut the lead to single digits as UT Martin pulled away for the victory.

Next up, Morehead State heads to the road for a matchup with SEMO on Thursday. The game scheduled to tip off at 6:00 PM ET.
