·   SEC Player of the Week – Kentucky forward Keion Brooks Jr., a 6-foot-7, 210-pound junior from Fort Wayne, Ind., averaged 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in wins over Mississippi State and at No. 5 Kansas. He exploded for a career-high 27 points against Kansas while adding eight rebounds – including five on the offensive end – and also had an assist. He scored 15 straight points for UK at one point in the second half. He made 9 of 10 at the free throw line against the Jayhawks. Brooks opened the week with 12 points and six boards in an overtime win over Mississippi State.

·   SEC Freshman of the Week – Ole Miss guard Daeshun Ruffin, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound freshman from Jackson, Miss., averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and converted 19-of-24 of his free throws in games against Florida, Arkansas and Kansas State. He scored 15 of his career-high 21 points in the second half of a win over Florida. Ruffin also added a career-high seven rebounds in a win over Kansas State (previous best was two).

·   The SEC won the ninth annual Big 12/SEC Challenge by winning six of the 10 games on January 29. It is the second year in a row the SEC won the Challenge. The SEC has lost the Challenge just one time in the last six years.

·   Six SEC teams are receiving mention in the Jan. 31 Associated Press Top 25 highlighted by Auburn (1st), Kentucky (5th), Tennessee (22nd) and LSU (25th). Alabama and Arkansas are receiving votes.

·   Auburn is the eighth different SEC school to be ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Poll (Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina and Tennessee).

·   For the second week in a row, SEC teams sit on top of both the men’s and women’s Associated Press basketball polls. Auburn is No. 1 on the men’s side while South Carolina is No. 1 in the women’s poll.

·   Four teams rank in the Top 15 of the NCAA’s NET rankings (1st nationally). Five are in the Top 25 (t-2nd nationally) and nine are in the Top 75 (t-1st nationally).

·   The SEC’s 71 Quad 1 and 2 wins are the most in the nation.

·   Five SEC teams rank in the Top 20 of KenPom.com’s rankings.

·   Three SEC teams rank in the Top 15 of KenPom’s Adjusted Defensive Efficiency: LSU (1st), Tennessee (5th) and Auburn (12th). Twelve teams rank in the Top 90.

·   Seven of the 24 players named to the 2022 McDonald’s All-America game have signed to play at SEC schools.

·   Four SEC teams brought home championship trophies from bracketed holiday tournaments: Hall of Fame Classic (Arkansas), Fort Myers Tip-Off (Florida), Emerald Coast Classic (LSU) and Diamond Head Classic (Vanderbilt).

·   Thirty-one current players are wearing graduate patches. SEC teams include a uniform patch which recognizes student-athletes who have earned their undergraduate college degree.

·   For the third year in a row, 12 SEC players were picked in the 2021 NBA Draft, including seven who were chosen in the first round.

·   36 SEC players have been selected in the last three NBA Drafts, including 19 who have been selected in the first round.

·   The SEC has had 21 NCAA Tournament selections over the last three tournaments.

·   One of every six NBA players are from SEC schools as the league had 76 players on 2021-22 NBA Opening Day rosters. All 14 SEC schools were represented and at least one SEC player was on 29 of 30 NBA rosters.

·   Six players from SEC schools were named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team: Charles Barkley, Auburn; Anthony Davis, Kentucky; Pete Maravich, LSU; Shaquille O’Neal, LSU; Bob Pettit, LSU; Dominique Wilkins, Georgia.

·   14 of 14 SEC teams have made at least one NCAA Tournament appearance in the last six tournaments.

·   Kentucky was the favorite to win the 2022 SEC championship in a preseason poll of media from around the league and nation. Alabama was picked to finish second and is followed by Arkansas, Tennessee and Auburn. Vanderbilt’s Scotty Pippen Jr. was selected by the media as the preseason player of the year.
