Kentucky Wildcats vs. Georgetown Tigers 10/27/19

By Peggy Gilligan

The Big Blue Nation was got their first look at the 2019-2020 version of the Kentucky Wildcats Sunday evening at the newly renovated Rupp Arena. They were not disappointed with the new team.  The only hiccup came  early in the second half when Nick Richards went down with an apparent ankle injury. He left the game going straight to the locker room. Coach Calipari said in the post game news conference that he had not seen the tape but that his ankle had some swelling and that he had not talked to anyone about the injury.

The game started with Kentucky taking and 11-0 run. Georgetown  was getting shots but could not get anything to fall into the basket.

Chris Coffey of the Tigers was the first to score followed quickly by Jake Ohmer a transfer from WKU and a 10 Region alum from Scott High in northern Kentucky. Ohmer ended up being the high scorer in the game with 25 points. Georgetown went on a 12-0 run late in the first half to go into the break down 18 with the score 43-25.

Johnny Juzang was excited to get into the game twice trying to enter the game with out checking in at the officials table. Another great addition to the team is grad transfer Nate Sestina who debuted with a double double.

The second half was a breeze for the Cats having no problems except that the bigs for UK had some trouble getting the ball in the basket. Size from Georgetown was not the problem it seemed to be just a lack of finishing and putting the ball in the goal. Defense  fell off quickly when Hagans was on the bench.

The crowd of 19,527 was not disappointed in the debut of the Wildcats. All in all it seems Kentucky fans will have a lot to cheer for this year well into late March and hopefully early April.
